Anna Sokolov Receives Alpha Omega Award from Metropolitan
Theodosius
His Beatitude, Theodosius, Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan
of All America and Canada, presented the Alpha Omega Award to Anna
Sokolov, a Sea Scout in the SSS Viking of San Francisco, following
Divine Liturgy on the Sunday of Pentecost, June 22, 2002. The services
were held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Orthodox Church of
America, where Annas father, Fr. Victor Sokolov is the Dean.
Anna is an Apprentice in the Sea Scout Ship Viking of San
Francisco. A historic sailing whaleboat, the SSS Viking had been a
chartered Sea Scout Ship for over 60 years. Anna is the fourth Sokolov
to be a Sea Scout in San Francisco. Her brothers, Christopher and
Philip, are members of the SSS Corsair, earned the Alpha Omegas as
well as Quartermaster, the highest award in Sea Scouts. Her sister,
Tamara, was also a member of the SSS Viking and received her
Quartermaster just last year. Christopher also received the EOCS
scholarship in 1998.
Sea Scouts is part of the Venturing division of the Boy Scouts of
America, which provides young men and women 14 to 20 an opportunity to
build skills in sailing and seamanship.
