EOCS - PRESS RELEASE

At the First Plenary Session of the
All American Council. His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius
made his Farewell Address to all those assembled. Following
the Address, Protopresbyter Robert Kondratick, Chancellor of
the Orthodox Church in America, called upon Rev. John Bacon,
of Bridgewater, Massachusetts to the podium to make a
special presentation. On behalf of George N. Boulukos,
Chairman, and the Executive Board of the Eastern Orthodox
Committee on Scouting, assisted by former EOCS Board Member,
Edward Korolenko of Pensacola, Florida Father Bacon
presented the Prophet Elias Adult Recognition to his
Beatitude. During the presentation a brief address
mentioned the numerous contributions His Beatitude had made
in his long Episcopal career, including celebrating The
Divine Liturgy for the National Boy Scout Jamborees,
presenting countless Chi Rho and Alpha Omega Scout Awards,
encouraging and blessing clergy to serve the youth of our
Church through Scouting, and by serving as a good example
for the youth of America through his love, kindness,
personal holiness, and joyful spirit.
His Beatitude,
Metropolitan Theodosius, following brief photo session, expressed his
sincerest appreciation for receiving this honor. He also mentioned
that the medal and the certificate would be on display in a special
glass case at the office of the central administration of the Orthodox
Church in America in Syosset, New York, following his retirement.
This is the first Prophet Elias Adult Award ever presented to an
Orthodox Hierarch. The presenter, Father John Bacon earned his Eagle
Scout Award as a youth, is the EOCS Outreach Coordinator for New
England, the OCA representative to the Eastern Orthodox Committee on
Scouting, and Scout Chaplain for regional and national Boy Scout
Events.
