EOCS - PRESS RELEASE

October, 2002

At the First Plenary Session of the All American Council. His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius made his Farewell Address to all those assembled.  Following the Address, Protopresbyter Robert Kondratick, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, called upon Rev. John Bacon, of Bridgewater, Massachusetts to the podium to make a special presentation.  On behalf of George N. Boulukos, Chairman, and the Executive Board of the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting, assisted by former EOCS Board Member, Edward Korolenko of Pensacola, Florida Father Bacon presented the Prophet Elias Adult Recognition to his Beatitude.  During the presentation a brief address mentioned the numerous contributions His Beatitude had made in his long Episcopal career, including celebrating The Divine Liturgy for the National Boy Scout Jamborees, presenting countless Chi Rho and Alpha Omega Scout Awards, encouraging and blessing clergy to serve the youth of our Church through Scouting, and by serving as a good example for the youth of America through his love, kindness, personal holiness, and joyful spirit.

His Beatitude, Metropolitan Theodosius, following brief photo session, expressed his sincerest appreciation for receiving this honor.  He also mentioned that the medal and the certificate would be on display in a special glass case at the office of the central administration of the Orthodox Church in America in Syosset, New York, following his retirement.  This is the first Prophet Elias Adult Award ever presented to an Orthodox Hierarch.  The presenter, Father John Bacon earned his Eagle Scout Award as a youth, is the EOCS Outreach Coordinator for New England, the OCA representative to the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting, and Scout Chaplain for regional and national Boy Scout Events.
